Laming, M.M. (2010) Integrating pedagogy, curriculum & graduate attributes: An Australian case study. In: 7th International Enhancement Themes Conference, 2 - 3 March 2010, Edinburgh, Scotland
Abstract
This paper describes an teaching and learning model adopted in first year education units that integrates Tinto’s learning communities with Wenger’s idea of communities of practice to address issues of pedagogy and curriculum simultaneously. It was developed in response to the increasing diversity of students entering pre-service teacher education courses. The challenge has been to provide support to students who may be finding the transition to university study difficult, while assisting their academic progress and preparing them for their professional role as teachers. The integrated model also allows staff in the School of Education to model effective teaching to their students who will take their example into schools during their professional placement.
