Abstract
A simple submersible apparatus for the collection of a continuous composite water sample, suitable for heavy metal determination, is described. A comparison between results obtained for Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn and Hg using this sampler and a series of hand collected samples showed a satisfactory level of agreement. The apparatus is suitable for pollution monitoring purposes in relatively shallow (<20 m) waters where the concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn and Hg are expected to exceed 0.05, 0.2, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.02 μg l−1 respectively.
