Abstract
The advent of DNA profiling (or so-called "DNA fingerprinting") as forensic tool has created considerable excitement in legal circles and has led to a flurry of recent and proposed legislative amendments (not all of which have been noticed in recent contributions to the literature). There is considerable uncertainty about the scope of current police powers to obtain samples suitable for analysis.
