Abstract
The stability constants of the complexes of lead(II) with fluoride, chloride, bromide and iodide in aqueous solution have been measured by potentiometric titrations with a lead amalgam at 25°C and an ionic strength of 1.00 M (NaClO4). The overall stability constants show an interesting “mixed” order with log β n for F− > (Cl− < Br− < I−) for n = 1, 2, although the fluoride system shows no tendency to form higher order complexes. The stepwise stability constants for each system show variations which may reflect a change in the coordination number of lead(II) from six to four.
