Abstract

The economics and environmental sustainability of enzymatic lignocellulose-to-ethanol conversion processes are adversely affected by the use of purchased cellulase preparations. Commercial cellulase preparations lack the microorganisms that produce them and thus cannot be cultured on-site, resulting in a significant ongoing expense.
