Solar and convective drying of vegetable product

The study of solar and convective drying of vegetable product was performed in order to determine the performance of the system that got energy from solar energy and steam. And also, the financial analysis, advantages and disadvantages of the system are described. Results from collector testing between 8.30 a.m. - 5.30 p.m. with the average global solar radiation was 650.0 W/m 2, air flow rate was 0.68 kg/s, average ambient air temperature was 35.0°C , showed that the average efficiency of solar collector was about 46.0 %. Experimental results showed that the efficiency of drying system was between 27.5 - 58.5% depending on type and quantity of the fresh product. And the final moisture content of product was between 10-15% whereas the initial moisture content was between 60-90%. From the financial analysis, it was found that internal rate of return was 57.8 % and the benefit-cost ratio was 1.17. From this study, it has indicated that the system has many advantages, however it also has some disadvantage that should be improved in the aspect of auxiliary heat in order to save more energy.
