McHoul, A. and Rapley, M. (2003) Stigma and branding: Who is SANE? Journal of Critical Psychology Counselling and Psychotherapy, 3 (3). pp. 164-176.
Abstract
Discusses the use of language in the area of mental health. Argues that organisations that constantly monitor language and attempt to define an acceptable discourse for mental health problems are in danger of reducing the possibilities and variety of expression in the English language. Uses the example of Sane Australia which maintains the website StigmaWatch to discuss the issues.
