Abstract
Observations of mesoscale variations in temperature and wind fields in a desert environment are presented and discussed. In particular the influence of low relief under conditions of strong stability is highlighted and stagnant flow is shown to occur below a critical Froude number of 1.5. Sudden nocturnal temperature increases are also analysed and possible mechanisms for their formation discussed.
