Abstract

Micropropagation of carob is possible from seedlings and mature trees using Murashige and Skoog medium with 5 μM zeatin for shoot multiplication and 10 μM indole-butyric acid for root induction. Gibberellic acid (2.5 μM) in the shoot multiplication medium inhibited subsequent rooting. This inhibition was partially overcome by a passage in a medium with zeatin (5 μM) and without gibberellic acid, and was completely reversed by a passage in a medium with zeatin (5 μM) and ancymidol (5 μM).
