Pour-flush toilet: An option for sewage disposal in remote aboriginal communities
Mathew, K. (1989) Pour-flush toilet: An option for sewage disposal in remote aboriginal communities. In: Workshop on Water Supply, Water Use and Waste Disposal for Remote Communities, 27 September, Murdoch University, Perth, Australia.
Different types of pour-flush toilets are popular in many parts of the developing countries. Pour-flush toilets however, have not been offered as an option for Aboriginal communities in Western Australia. This paper will review the existing options for toilets at Aboriginal Communities and then derive some principles for future options. It then applies the principles to formulate design criteria and focuses on the design and construction of a specific type of pour-flush toilet. The aim is to provide one more option which could fulfil the differing requirements of communities with their different perceptions of their needs.
