Abstract

Giardia and Crytosporidium are now familiar to most Australians after the recent 'crisis' in Sydney when both organisms were detected in the drinking water supply. The event raised awareness about the potential for the parasites to contaminate the environment, and has led to concerns about current detection methods and the lack of information these methods provide.
